Tribunal Time Limits Will Be Increased From 3 to 6 Months

Tribunal Time Limits for raising tribunal claims will be increased from 3 months to 6 months.

Currently employees have three months to bring most claims before an employment tribunal. Labour intends to increase the time limit to six months. The extension would bring the time limit in line with statutory redundancy and equal pay claims.

Timescales

Given the potential impact of this change, we expect that consultation will take place before any changes are implemented.

Top Tips

Whilst this would allow more time for disputes to be resolved before claims are brought, it is likely to result in more claims overall – increasing costs for businesses.
