Morale Boosting Alternatives To Financial Bonuses

Alternatives To Financial Bonuses. There’s no denying that financial bonuses can be great in some circumstances. However, more often than not bonuses are problematic especially if are unable to give substantial bonuses across the whole team, so they can often have the effect of undermining morale rather than boosting it.

If you’re facing this dilemma right now, a few informal chats with team members will help gauge the general feeling. Try asking a cross-section of team one to one, what would make a real difference to them? Explain that you want to reward them in a meaningful way for their hard work, so want to hear their thoughts.

Alternatives To Financial Bonuses

Here are some morale boosting ideas that show your appreciation:

  • Food gifts: try sourcing items from local producers to create hampers, or send a gourmet meal through a delivery service.
  • Wellbeing gifts: such as organic skincare products, aromatherapy candles and spa treatments.
  • Fresh flowers: delivered to their home are an excellent way to say thank you.
  • Experiences: vouchers for a meal, cinema or theatre experience or a family day out are all great examples of things people really value.
  • Team activities are a great way to have some fun and get people talking:
    • cookery classes, cocktail classes or wine tasting experiences,
    • murder mystery or escape room challenges,
    • pub games such as darts, ping pong, table football, Jenga and Connect 4 can all be run as something relaxed and ‘have a go’ or as a structured team competition,
    • generation game games such as balloon modelling, build a gingerbread house, design a pumpkin, limbo dancing, playing the shopping channel host or creating bin bag fashion,

Alternatively, club the cash together and invest in something which will improve the workplace. For instance, one client of mine installed a shower room so staff who ran or biked into the office could have a shower when they arrived.
